Japanese

Japanese is one of the prominent languages of East Asia, spoken by approximately 128 million people. It is the official language of Japan, but its influence extends beyond the borders of the country, with a significant presence in areas with Japanese-speaking immigrant communities. In recent decades, Japanese has gained widespread importance in fields such as technology and robotics, due to the groundbreaking innovations introduced by Japanese companies. Additionally, with the rise of the internet, the language has become increasingly popular, especially among younger generations, who are introduced to it through manga, anime, and music.

In addition to kanji, the Chinese characters used in the language, Japanese employs two syllabaries: hiragana and katakana. These syllabaries represent syllables rather than individual sounds, and their phonetic structure is relatively simple, making the language’s pronunciation particularly accessible, especially for Greek speakers. The grammar of Japanese is highly logical, and while it differs significantly from European languages, students typically find it easier to grasp, thanks to its clear structure.

Upon completing courses at AcadeCultural, learners are prepared to take the Japanese language proficiency exams administered by the Japan Foundation, in collaboration with the Japan Educational Exchanges and Services (JEES). These exams are held annually in Greece every December, under the auspices of the Greek-Japanese Association. Through these certifications, students can demonstrate their proficiency and further their knowledge of the language in a global context.
