Swedish
Swedish belongs to the Scandinavian subgroup of the Germanic branch of the Indo-European language family. It is spoken by approximately 10 million people and is an official language in both Sweden and Finland, where it shares official status alongside Finnish.
The Swedish alphabet consists of 29 letters, based on the Latin script. The first 26 letters are identical to those of the Latin alphabet, while the last three—Å, Ä, and Ö—are distinct vowels unique to Swedish.
Although considered a relatively modern language, Swedish has incorporated elements from a variety of other languages, especially German and English, as well as Latin, French, and others. In recent decades, English has had a strong influence on the language, particularly through film, music, and technology, leading to the adoption of numerous English loanwords into everyday Swedish.
